Hi Friends!
My name's Chloe Tomes and I'm so excited to finally start this blog! I have an About Me page that breaks down what I'm about and kind of where my love for film stems from, but I thought I'd answer the much more important question about myself and why I'm starting this blog: Where the heck did you get the name Row D, Please? Well I'm very glad you asked...
Let's start with the basics. I go to college in Rocklin, California, right outside of Sacramento. When I first transferred up here, I was a full time student with little to no free time and made friends with people who were just as stressed out as I was. We very quickly learned that we needed a distraction from school, work, and responsibility, but that we were also broke college students. So what did we do about it?
Well, in Rocklin, all the movie theaters have $5 Tuesdays for almost every movie (except for special runs like The Godfather or The Wizard of Oz... go figure). Cue my friends and I running to the movie theaters almost every Tuesday night to escape and enjoy the newest film. It didn't matter how late it was, we almost always saw a Tuesday night movie and we still do.
So again... Why Row D? Well, it started out as a necessity really. Sometimes, we'd walk into the movie theater with a group as large as 10 people, which you kind of need an entire row for. Ironically enough, a lot of people don't tend to sit in Row D at Rocklin theaters so it worked out great! But more than that, Row D is a comfortable row that isn't too close to the screen and not too far away.
You are, quite literally, in the middle of the action.
This tradition has been ESSENTIAL to my survival in college. As an English major, my brain is still working and analyzing the movie, but at the same time, I find myself enjoying it. Watching a movie is a chance for me to explore what I'm learning, but in a way that I like and I'm not getting graded for! This tradition has also pushed me to watch movies I may not watch on my own and formulate opinions on them as my friends and I discuss it. I loved movies before this tradition, but I definitely started to love them more when I had people to discuss them with. :)
So that's the long and the short of it: Row D, Please? comes out of a place of love, discussion, and community and I can't wait for you all to join the discussion! See you in the movies!
