Another Tuesday came and went, which meant another $5 movie night for me and my friends (If you want some context to this, check out my about me page)! I've been to a couple of movies by myself since I last checked in with you guys, but I hadn't been to a Tuesday night movie with my friends since Captain Marvel came out, so I was pretty stoked to get back to it!
In all this theater going, I've realized that I have a few essentials that I take with me when going to the movies that make my life a little bit easier (and the dent in my wallet a whole lot smaller). I also took to Instagram and asked my followers what their movie theater essentials were and got some pretty common answers. So without further ado, here's my top 5 essentials to have at the movies
1. A sweater
First of all, movie theaters are ALWAYS too cold. I don't know if it's because of the film or the equipment used for the projectors, but it's always unnecessarily cold in there. That is why a sweater is always a necessity, especially in the summer... trust me on this one. You won't regret it.
2. Comfy pants/clothes
In the same thread as bringing a sweater, comfy clothes are a must. It's not a fashion show and you're sitting for hours watching a movie so why wouldn't you want to be comfy? Skip the jeans and just go for a more comfortable wardrobe. This is also an absolute game-changer if you're seeing a few movies in a row, because who wants to be uncomfortable binge-watching all the Avengers movies in theaters before Endgame comes out? Not you and definitely not me.
3. Pre-bought snacks and popcorn
When I asked my followers about their movie theater essentials, pre-bought snacks was the top thing they had to have when going to the movies. Now I can already hear it: "But Chloe, they sell snacks at the movies, why shouldn't I just buy them there?" Well I'm glad you asked. Movie theater snacks are way overpriced and you can buy them for way cheaper before you even walk in the door. At AMC, for example, various candies can go for anywhere between $3.99-$4.49 a piece. Why pay that price, when you can go to your local grocery store or gas station and get it for cheaper? Don't get me wrong, movie theater popcorn is always worth buying while you're there, but bring your own snacks and save the money you would have spent for the next time you go to the movies.
4. A water bottle
Some people prefer a fountain drink when going to the movies, but me? I prefer water to chase down the salty, sweet goodness of popcorn and candy. And as we've learned already, I'm trying to spend the minimum amount of money at the theaters and trying to save you a few bucks as well. Bringing a water bottle saves you some money and keeps you hydrated a lot more than the fountain drink will.
And the finally, the number one essential you should have when going to the movies?
5. Tickets
When I got this answer on Instagram, I honestly laughed out loud. This seems obvious and almost like an essential that shouldn't have to be named, and yet I still got this answer. At the end of the day, you need tickets to go to the movies, but if them seem expensive, check out your local theaters daily deals. Matinee showings, usually anytime before 1 or 2 pm, tend to be a bit cheaper then evening showings. Also, local theaters usually have deals for college students and a rewards program for frequent visitors. I highly recommend checking these opportunities out, because it is one of the only reason why I am able to go to to the movies as often as I do!
I hope you guys enjoyed this little bit of a goofier, but still informative post. What are your movie theater essentials? Let me me know in the comments below! I'm at a rough point in my semester with finals right around the corner, but that won't stop me from writing about the movies I love and love to hate. See you at the movies, movie lovers!
